The idea of the Green Room Surf Alliance

Philosophy

The Green Room (also known as "tube" or "barrel) is without doubt the ultimate goal and favorite location of every surfer. Once inside, you wish to get back again and again and again, if you make it back out, you experience a flash of adrenaline, energy and joy that is not comparable to anything else, a true gift of nature.

Inspired by this, The Green Room Journey was created to offer a sustainable surfing experience and the chance to make a difference by a conscious decision for sustainable surf travel. Our Certified Green Room Surf Camps ensure commitment to sustainability, while at the same time always focusing on having an unforgettable surf experience, as they are also representing the highest coaching standard in the world!

For that reason we see the relationship with our clients as crucial and understand it as a long term partnership. Long term partnerships are are also important within the local communities of the Green Room Surf Alliance Camps. Together we can thank Mother Nature for the happiness we experience when surfing and give something back!

Vision

The Green Room Surf Alliance emerges as an open network with the main purpose of attracting and promoting the principles and practices of sustainable development in surfing. The Green Room Surf School Alliance members will act as local driving forces, encouraging sustainable partnerships and ethical practices in their respective communities. At the same time, the Green Room Experience will make sustainability fun and long lasting.

Guiding principles

Sustainability is understood along the values of solidarity, human dignity, social justice, environmental sustainability, transparency and democratic participation. In order to achieve this, the Green Room Surf School Alliance focuses on e.g. green electricity, sustainable mobility, accommodation and food, waste management, coaching of staff and clients as well as sustainable surf equipment.

Common objectives

A “Sustainability Balance” based on the Ecological Footprint, the Life Cycle Analysis and the Common Good Balance is developed to integrate our core values into a measurable tool. The Green Room Surf Alliance aims to integrate the principles of the common good economy and to promote an eco-social market economy (green and inclusive markets).

The creation of the Green Room Surf Alliance is supported within a EU project.

Structure & Background

From a structural point of view, the Green Room Surf Alliance is a membership option of the Surf School Alliance.

The "Green Room Surf” concept has been developed by Johnny Nesslinger / Ridehere-Ridenow in 2009 and later been used with his permission by Austrian Surfing and the Surf School Alliance.
